13 May Hammersmith In Bloom
World Bee Day
In line with one of our flagship project areas – Place – we continue to work on delivering projects to ensure Hammersmith is considered a strong and vibrant destination. This includes developing Hammersmith’s urban biodiversity and protecting the town centre’s thriving ecosystem.
In June 2018, we partnered with the Lyric Hammersmith to welcome over 180,000 Buckfast bees to live on the roof of the theatre. Over the years we have maintained the hives and continue to work with our beekeeper, Barnaby, to produce our very own Hammersmith honey. Wednesday 20 May marks World Bee Day and we are proud to still be providing our buzzy friends with a safe area to thrive in 2026. Find out more
We need your help to celebrate the bees
In efforts to raise awareness and education about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem, we want to bring In Bloom to Hammersmith. In Bloom is an interactive plant-shaped sculpture that combines light and sound. It invites the public to play, listen and reflect while “pollinating” the “plant”: touching its light-up, musical “flowers” (see here).
As part of our In Bloom programme, we will also host a treasure trail guiding participants around the town centre. You’ll need to find the hidden bees, to unlock the answers to a biodiversity-themed quiz. Entries will also be in with a chance to win a pot of Hammersmith honey and other goodies from local businesses.
To bring In Bloom to Hammersmith, we are asking our local community to help us fundraise. Whether you can spare £100+ or £1, all contributions are welcome and very much appreciated, making it more possible to deliver the project. Donate here
