Happy Women’s Month! We celebrate you!

March is Women’s month! In Hammersmith, there are several ways you can get involved in women’s safety and many ways you can also help us celebrate the contributions of women to events in history and across contemporary society.

Hammersmith BID Women’s Safety Forum and Open Police Forum – 1st March 2023, 11 am – 12.30 pm: Hammersmith BID is holding its first Women’s Safety Forum of 2023 on 1st March. We will be joined by representatives of the local Met police team, to allow the community to directly raise any issues or concerns. We will also have relevant local updates, including information on bystander training, the Women’s Night Safety Charter, and TfL’s new Women’s Safety campaigns.

For The Culture: For the Writers – 3rd March, 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm: Join author and climate justice activist, Mikaela Loach to celebrate the release of her new bookIt’s Not That Radical: Climate Action to Transform Our World. Facilitated by Associate Director Nicholai La Barrie, Mikaela will be answering questions from the audience and reading extracts from her book. Joining the conversation is Beau Boka-Batesa, a justice activist from London and co-founder of Choked Up – the air pollution campaign advocating for legislation to protect our right to clean air.

Riverside Studios, Write Like A Girl – 7th March, 7.30 pm: Celebrate International Women’s Day with Riverside Studios and their show, ‘Write Like A Girl’, where they will be joined by some of the UK’s best up-and-coming female artists and songwriters. In the first Write Like A Girl show since 2021, four artists will perform in a songwriter’s circle and share the stories behind their songs. Follow the link to book.

For The Culture: For the Creatives – Wednesday 8th March, 7.30 pm – 10 pm: Join us for drinks, games, and music on Wednesday 8 March at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. A night for our local businesses and workers to come together for drinks, games, and music from Ouraa and poetry from Belinda Zhawi. For The Creatives is hosted in partnership with the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre as part of For The Culture, which Hammersmith BID is sponsoring. This programme champions and celebrates Black British artists, activists, and thinkers within our community. To RSVP, please get in touch via email.

Kindred Rising: IWD Special – Wednesday 8th March, 7 pm: Kindred Rising is an event series at Kindred that showcases the best up-and-coming acts from across West London and beyond, and to support International Women’s Day, Kindred is hosting an all-female Kindred Rising to celebrate the freshest female talent across a range of music genres. Through her Eyes: A Celebration of Female Artists, Thursday 9th March, 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm: To celebrate International Women’s Day and the wider Women’s History Month, Hammersmith & Fulham have teamed up with Lyric to present Through Her Eyes: A Celebration of Female Artists. The artwork on display is all created by local female artists and depicts their varying lives, experiences, and thoughts about today’s world. The exhibition covers a wide range of topics from race to menopause, to the beauty of landscapes and life’s simple pleasures. To find out more and sign-up, follow the link.

Hidden Voices: A Focus on the experiences of women and girls affected by Modern Slavery and Exploitation, Tuesday 28th March, 6:30-9:30pm: This free event is part of LBHF Women’s History Month/International Women’s Day events and will highlight the experiences of women and girls who have experienced modern slavery and exploitation. There will be an art exhibit of artwork created by survivors of MSE, an interactive art workshop, speakers, and refreshments. Reserve your spot here.

Bradmore House Party, Friday 31st March, 7pm: The Bradmore House Party is a quarterly blowout that serves up live music, cocktails, and party vibes until the early hours. Previous editions have seen headline performances from the likes of Mahalia and Miraa May, plus DJ sets from top radio names, and this one is shaping up to be just as special with an all-female line-up! Tickets can be bought here, with £5 of every ticket sold going towards supporting Girls I Rate.
