27 Sep London Fire Brigade consultation for businesses re: Automatic Fire Alarms
Across London, less than one percent of Automatic Fire Alarms are ultimately recorded as fires – the 99 per cent majority are false alarms. These false alarms take up 23,500 hours of the London Fire Brigade’s time. That time would be better spent increasing fire prevention in local communities, better engaging with our communities, and improving operational training.
That’s why the London Fire Brigade are proposing to no longer attend Automatic Fire Alarms between 7am and 6pm, unless certain exemptions apply. Those exemptions are buildings which have sleeping quarters, dangerous substances in the building, or buildings of substantial public significance where we consider exemption appropriate through our annual assessment of risk in London.
