Standing Up Against Harassment – ‘Every woman has a right to feel safe in her own city’

Street harassment directly conflicts with female empowerment but happens everywhere and every day. Street harassment includes, but is not limited to:

    • Unwelcome touching / Pressing against someone
    • Sexual gestures / Inappropriate comments about someone’s body
    • Demanding sexual services
    • Indecent exposure
    • Public humiliation
    • Sexual innuendos
    • Pressure for dates
    • Graphic descriptions of pornography and uninvited tails of sexual exploits
    • Animal noises / Whistles / Hooting
    • Sexist graffiti / Jokes

If you are unsure whether someone is experiencing street harassment, look for their reaction. If you believe something isn’t right, it probably isn’t.

As a bystander, it is sometimes difficult to know how to react. To inform people how to respond, together with Right to Be and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, L’Oreal has created several bystander training sessions. This programme drives awareness of harassment, upskilling and empowering individuals across various settings, such as schools, public transport, festivals, public spaces, and workplaces, to help defuse situations, discourage harassers, and support victims.

Sign-up here to upcoming morning, lunchtime, or afternoon sessions to suit your needs:

        • 1st March 2023, 9 am – 10 am
        • 1st March 2023, 12 pm – 1 pm
        • 1st March 2023, 4 pm – 5 pm
        • 8th March 2023, 10 am – 11 am
        • 8th March 2023, 2 pm – 3 pm
        • 14th March 2023, 12 pm – 1 pm

If you aren’t able to attend any of the above sessions, L’Oreal and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust have also put together a 10-Minute Digital Training where you can learn what you can do if you witness or experience street harassment.

Working together to spread awareness, we can all be part of the solution to end street harassment.
