16 May Oliver Peyton gives I Love Lunch thumbs up as he opens new restaurant
Renowned restaurateur Oliver Peyton OBE gave the BID’s culinary competition the thumbs up as he visited his newest premises at the Lyric Hammersmith.
Mr Peyton, also a judge on the BBC television series Great British Menu, has just opened his latest project, the Lyric Bar & Grill, located on the first floor of the newly refurbished theatre and the Peyton and Byrne Bakery which is located on the ground floor.
These two new locations join a very successful portfolio of restaurants at London’s cultural beacons, such as The National Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts and the British Library.
As a resident of Acton, he is very much a West Londoner, so when the opportunity came to work with the Lyric in an area that he calls home, he jumped at the chance.
Mr Peyton, said: “I’ve always wanted to do something here at the Lyric so when they approached me and asked if I would be interested, I said ‘of course’.
I know the neighbourhood extremely well and I loved the idea of being part of the community.
“When you look at what the theatre has done, you already feel that there has been a change. So many people are using its different spaces, and that’s what we wanted to be part of. We wanted to create somewhere that the whole community would use.
“If you look at what’s happened to Hammersmith in the past few years, you can see it’s changing for the better. More restaurants are opening, the dynamic of the high street is changing, the whole area has got a great feel to it and we wanted to be part of that.”
Mr Peyton’s visit to the Lyric coincided with the BID’s very own culinary competition, I Love Lunch, which he thought was a great way to support local food businesses.
