08 Nov Update: Climate Change Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)
In Summer 2023, Hammersmith BID took part in a consultation about Hammersmith & Fulham’s updated Climate Change Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). We saw the updated document as a positive step toward ensuring new developments combat climate change. Thank you to those who also took part in the consultation.
While the growth of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham is positive, the influx in the number of developments shouldn’t adversely impact the environment. The SPD supports developers, landowners, homeowners, planning officers and other interested parties in understanding how to best prepare for planning applications. The document also provides best-practice guidance for new homes and developments across areas including:
- sustainable design and construction
- air quality
- flooding
- energy
- ecology
- waste
- transport
As of October 2023, Hammersmith & Fulham Council has adopted the updated planning guidelines to ensure domestic and non-domestic buildings are environmentally friendly. The ambition across the borough is to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and the guidance found in the new SPD forms a key step toward reaching this goal.
