03 Nov Support and security for your business at Christmas
Your business’s security and staff safety is our priority over the festive period. Here are a number of ways we work to support Hammersmith businesses during this busy time.
Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP)
In November 2023, in partnership with Fulham BID, Hammersmith BID launched its new Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP). Working together, we will be delivering joint initiatives and training, including a shared crime reporting and intelligence platform. We are also delighted to welcome a new dedicated Engagement Officer from Safer Business Network who will be actively involved in the dynamic field of crime prevention across our town centres.
WalkSafe
To achieve our ambitions around women’s safety and town centre security and resilience, both of which are encompassed by our Women’s Safety Forum and Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), Hammersmith BID has partnered with WalkSafe. WalkSafe is a free personal safety app, with an enhanced feature that plots safe spaces, highlighting venues with safety measures in place. These safety measures may include:
-
-
- Ask For Angela
- Active Bystander Training
- Security Present
- Charging Points Available
- Sanitary Products Available
- LGBTQIA+ Friendly
- WAVE Training
-
A safer space for women and girls is a safer space for all. If you are interested in becoming a local safe space, contact the team at Hammersmith BID.
Ask for Angela
If at any point over the festive period you are in a Hammersmith licensed premises and feel vulnerable, whether that be through unwanted attention or feeling unsafe on a date, you can discreetly request assistance by approaching any staff member and ‘Ask for Angela’.
Women’s Safety: Stand Up Against Harassment
At Hammersmith BID we recognise the values of Active Bystander Training. The Suzy Lamplugh Trust has partnered with L’Oréal Paris to bring the expert approved “Stand Up Against Street Harassment” international training programme by “Right To Be”. The session includes bystander training and welfare and vulnerability training to drive awareness of harassment. The training aims to upskill and empower individuals across various settings such as schools, public transport, festivals, public spaces, and workplaces, to help defuse situations, discourage harassers, and support victims.
If your business is interested in the session, you can follow the link to sign-up. Please email us to let us know how many of your staff took part.
SafetyNet
Our SafetyNet radio network supports your business by providing immediate communication with CCTV. With new temporary staff being brought in to work the festive period, now is a great time to ensure they’re fully trained on the SafetyNet. The service also provides our licensed premises and hospitality industry with dedicated CCTV coverage throughout the night, scanning the town for suspicious behaviour 24/7, and helps to keep a watchful eye when businesses are closed for the holidays.
If you’re a local business and interested in securing further safety by joining our SafetyNet radio network or making use of the free training, please email us.
Cyber Crime
With internet sales skyrocketing over the festive period, so do the risks of online scams. To avoid becoming the victim of shopping or auction fraud as well as any other cyber-crime, read this advice from the Metropolitan Police. #CyberCrime
