The next Hammersmith Women’s Safety Forum will be taking place on Wednesday, 18th May at 11am – 12pm.
This will be an interactive session titled: ‘Safety for women in business – what are employers missing?’
In this session you will hear from Laura Durrant and Deeba Syed about the evidence, best practice and emerging issues related to women’s safety in business, in particular:
- What safety means, and the impact a lack of safety can have
- The current evidence about the scale of the issues
- Employer responsibilities
- Using interactive case studies, explore the issues that businesses face
- Identify best practice and where to go for further guidance and insights

Laura Durrant:
Laura is the Managing Partner of Equitura, which offers strategic solutions for organisations focused on business culture, diversity, and social justice. Laura is passionate about helping leaders to create cultures of equitable opportunity and challenging the status quo to embed meaningful and resilient change. Prior to establishing Equitura, Laura worked for many years as a regulatory, investigations, and litigation lawyer, both as a Partner and senior leader in law and financial services.
Deeba Syed:
Deeba is an award-winning women’s rights advocate, campaigner and lawyer. She joined Rights of Women in 2019 to set up a ground-breaking employment law advice line for women experiencing sexual harassment in the workplace, funded by TIME’S UP UK the Justice and Equality Fund, managed by the Rosa, the UK Fund for Women and Girls. Deeba trained in the financial services sector and now specialises in harassment and discrimination. She has previously worked in politics, communications, and the charity sector.
Furthermore, we will be running a lunchtime session on Bystander Training for all BID businesses and their staff. This is with The Suzy Lamplugh Trust, who have partnered with L’Oréal Paris to bring the expert-approved “Stand Up Against Street Harassment” international training programme by “Right To Be”. The session is on Wednesday, 25th May, 1pm – 2pm, and free of charge to attend.
This programme drives awareness of harassment, upskilling and empowering individuals across various settings such as schools, public transport, festivals, public spaces, and workplaces, to help defuse situations, discourage harassers, and support victims.
