18 Aug Community Litter Picking – August 2023
In August 2023, we met with 12 volunteers from across Hammersmith’s employee and visitor community for our Summer Community Litter Picking Event. Following a briefing on Lyric Square, volunteers began their 90-minute litter pick, heading to Hammersmith Grove, King Street, towards Butterwick and the Hammersmith Flyover before ending at St Paul’s Green for a debrief, some pictures and the litter drop-off.
Thank you to our volunteers for filling 4 litter bags and 3 recycling bags containing 63 cans, 39 plastic bottles, 15 glass bottles, 7 vapes, 100s of cigarette butts and even some miscellaneous items including a pair of glasses and 3 straws.

Hammersmith BID works with local businesses to support the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. We facilitate litter-picking sessions and other green volunteering opportunities as part of our sustainability commitment. Every act to protect the environment, no matter how small, makes a difference. The campaign inspires people to eliminate litter for current and future generations. Green Volunteering can help permanently change behaviour, spotlight the problem and offer creative solutions.
Volunteers keep a tally of cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, vapes and bulky items they collect throughout the litter picking event. The BID team gathers these figures at the end and reports them via the Keep Britain Tidy website.
We are proud to join #LitterHeroes across the UK, working with employees to create a cleaner and greener Hammersmith.
